TOPIC: Who is this guy Mad Max?

Who is this guy Mad Max? 5 years 3 months ago #1

Hey everybody.

Any body use Mad Max for anything? I was wondering what type of experience someone might have had.

The bike looks really wild!

I think that picture came out before any gen 2 had hit our shores. Someone said its photo shopped. as for his/their products I have never heard any feedback good nor bad.

In a nutshell.....Mad Max AKA Paul Civatello is the original VMax customizer and performance parts fabricator. He's been doing it since 1985. He pretty much is the whole company, so his parts are very low volume and very expensive. Oh...and he's nuts....but not in a bad way. :P

As for the picture: It is definitely a photoshop. Has been around for a while now. Never saw any products come from them/him.

If you gave him your bike this year . The 2013 would be out before you got it back . Marks right he`s nut`s

He did some pretty nice work back in the day . But to deal with him you NEED to have 2 bikes . One that stays there and one you ride .

My first hand experience was when I had my '94 converted to chaindrive. It was only supposed to be a conversion, nothing else, the bike had pretty low miles. While he had it he said it needed a new transmission and crankshaft. By the time I got it back almost a year later the I had spent twice what it was supposed to cost for the chaindrive and after 1500 miles the main crank bearings had spun in the case. When I called to see what Mr. Civitello (Mad Max) could do to help he said those types of things happen when you modify a bike, there are no warranties. I understand there are "risks" when you go into a motor, I wasn't expecting it to be covered 100% but I thought he would at least work with me to do something, but no. I've had very different experience with PCW Racing. I had a '97 concerted to a 1500 Tourmaster and it only took about 4 months, no hidden costs. After about 3K miles while I was riding very hard I threw a rod and busted the case. When I sent it back to PCW, John Gainey had no problem with me suppling the parts which I shopped around on. He would have got a little mark up had he bought them, but he was willing to help me get back on the road ASAP. He also cut me a break on the labor as well. Two very different companies, I'd go back to PCW anytime.

BTW, the cause of the 1500 engine failure was the oil sump O-ring, this was before the problem was well documented (happens even on stock bikes)and I believe PCW makes a modification on older Maxes to help prevent this from happening.

Thank you all for the updates!

I happened across his site and it didn't see anything for Gen2.

Looks like it was just another search that wasn't for me.
