This blows! :tounge:

Make: YAMAHA Model: VMX17
Model Year: 2009
Manufacturer: YAMAHA MOTOR CORPORATION, USA Mfr's Report Date: SEP 26, 2011
NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID Number: 11V483000 N/A
NHTSA Action Number: N/A
Component: ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING

Summary:
YAMAHA IS RECALLING CERTAIN MODEL YEAR 2009-2011 VMX17 (V-MAX) MOTORCYCLES, INCLUDING THE YB, YCB, ZR, ZCR AG AND ACG VARIANTS, MANUFACTURED FROM SEPTEMBER 2008 THROUGH APRIL 2011. ON AFFECTED MOTORCYCLES, HIGH OIL PRESSURE CAN BUILD UP INSIDE THE OIL PUMP CAUSING IT TO MALFUNCTION. OIL MIGHT THEN STOP PUMPING THROUGH THE ENGINE RESULTING IN SEVERE ENGINE DAMAGE THAT CAN CAUSE THE ENGINE TO STALL AND NOT RESTART AGAIN.
Consequence:
AN ENGINE STALL CAN INCREASE THE RISK OF A CRASH WITH INJURY OR DEATH.
Remedy:
YAMAHA DEALERS WILL REPLACE THE OIL PUMP FREE OF CHARGE. THE SAFETY RECALL IS EXPECTED TO BEGIN DURING OCTOBER 2011. OWNERS MAY CONTACT YAMAHA AT 1-800-962-7926.
Notes:
OWNERS MAY ALSO CONTACT THE NATIONAL HIGHWAY TRAFFIC SAFETY ADMINISTRATION'S VEHICLE SAFETY HOTLINE AT 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153), OR GO TO WWW.SAFERCAR.GOV .

Thanks for that Tom....Kirk.

So are we taking out the second clutch spring out before we bring it in....wonder if the dealer would even put it back in during re-assembly? Not in the book....probably not.

Good question. I'm on good terms with the service manager at my dealer. He's an old school racer that knows Pee Wee, so he's pretty cool. I'll mention it to him. That's if mine is recalled. My dealer said that my bike was not part of the recall today, but I wonder if they have the most recent VIN list from Yammi.

best just to tell him about the second spring, really don't see a problem. The new pump instaLl is only listed for 1 hour, no change of oil. I guess it could be alot worse.

Nice find on the recall/installation paperwork. Looks like a 2hr job, so with parts Yamaha should get out of this for less than a mil, and it looks like they have up to 1 1/2 yrs to complete them all.
